Tilley Awards Update

Letter regarding the Street Angels, Ambassadors and St John Ambulance Tilley Award shortlisting - out of 147 entries we made the final 12 - not bad going - just didn't make the final 3.... We have won the Regional Award though!
I am sorry to tell you that your Tilley entry 'Crime Reduction in Halifax Town Centre (during day & night) 'has not been selected for the national Tilley Award finals.

Investing in Volunteers

Halifax Street Angels has become the fourth organisation in Calderdale to be awarded the prestigious "Investing in Volunteers" award.
The award is the UK quality standard which helps organisations to review volunteer management and demonstrate the commitment to the valuable input of volunteers. The process, which takes place over a year, involves interviews with volunteers, completing a quality standard document, and input from an assessor.

Salvation Army leaders become Angels

The leaders of the Salvation Army in UK and Ireland became Street Angels on Saturday as part of a visit to Halifax.
Commissioners John and Elizabeth Matear were in the town to celebrate the 126th anniversary of the work of Halifax Salvation Army.
Part of the visit included meeting Street Angel volunteers in Fairtrade Cafe before joining a team on patrol in the town. The couple met clubbers and heard some of the success stories of the Street Angels project including the contribution volunteers have made towards a 42% reduction in violent crime in the town centre.

'Street angels' to help revellers

Street angels will take care of drunken revellers
Dozens of volunteer "street angels" will be patrolling the highways of a West Yorkshire city to help revellers who have over-done the festive cheer.
About 40 people will take part in the scheme, which has been organised by city centre churches in Bradford after a successful trial in Halifax.

LIBERAL Democrat leadership contender Nick Clegg was impressed by Calderdale's crime-fighting groups when he visited Halifax.
The Sheffield Hallam MP and Shadow Home Secretary met with representatives from a range of organisations working to reduce crime in Calderdale.
He listened to explanations of the work carried out in the district by the town centre management team, town centre ambassadors, the Street Angels and Calderdale Council, in partnership with West Yorkshire Police.

Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg will be coming to Halifax on Friday 2th November. Clegg is the hot favourite to replace Ming Campbell as Leader of the Lib Dems when the Party announces the result of the contest on 17th December. A new angelic' scheme to make Bradford a safer place to be over the weekend is about to start.
Street Angels is a project already pioneered by churches in Halifax and tried out in other cities around the UK and there are proposals to now bring it into Bradford.
