Investing in Volunteers

Thursday 26th June 2008

Halifax Street Angels has become the fourth organisation in Calderdale to be awarded the prestigious "Investing in Volunteers" award.

The award is the UK quality standard which helps organisations to review volunteer management and demonstrate the commitment to the valuable input of volunteers. The process, which takes place over a year, involves interviews with volunteers, completing a quality standard document, and input from an assessor.

Steve Blackman of Voluntary Action Calderdale, who sponsored the costs of the Award through the Capacity Builders (sub regional) fund said, "I'm delighted the Halifax Street Angels have achieved IIV accreditation because it demonstrates their ongoing commitment to volunteer development and formally recognises the high standards they set as a volunteer-involving organisation."

Halifax Street Angels, a project of Churches Together in Halifax, has run for three years and helped contribute to a reduction in crime in Halifax Town Centre by 42%. The project, which relies on volunteers, has recently expanded its Calderdale operation to Todmorden and is planning a national Christian Nightlife Initiative on 1st July.

The other projects in Calderdale who have been awarded the Investing in Volunteers award are Homestart, Smartmove and Scope.
