Tilley Awards Update

Wednesday 10th March 2010 6:12PM

Letter regarding the Street Angels, Ambassadors and St John Ambulance Tilley Award shortlisting - out of 147 entries we made the final 12 - not bad going - just didn't make the final 3.... We have won the Regional Award though!

I am sorry to tell you that your Tilley entry 'Crime Reduction in Halifax Town Centre (during day & night) 'has not been selected for the national Tilley Award finals.

The judges faced a difficult task in reviewing twelve strong applications and judges who have sat on previous Tilley panels commented on a notable increase in the quality of the short listed entries this year.

I hope that you are not too discouraged by this news as it is to be commended that you were short listed from 147 entries in the biggest Tilley competition to date. I appreciate that it takes a lot of time and effort to enter the Awards and my team will certainly be looking to share learning from your project in as many ways possible. Short listed projects are in the process of being added to the Effective Practice Database (http://www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/cgi-bin/epd/index.cgi) on the Crime Reduction Website so that they are accessible by a wider audience. Where relevant to your project subject matter we may be in touch with you later in the year in relation to specific projects.

The three 2008 finalists will be show casing their projects at this year's Problem Oriented Partnerships Conference at the Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire from 9-11th September (http://www.ukpopconference.co.uk/). The conference is an excellent opportunity to learn more about community safety projects which utilise problem solving models to great effect and meet other like-minded individuals.

Don't forget that you can re-submit your project to next year's Tilley Awards so I do hope that you may be able to attend the conference - even if it just to exchange tips with the finalists or to harangue me about why your project really should have won!
