St John Ambulance

St John Ambulance provide first aid assistance on the streets of Halifax Town Centre. With two fully equipped emergency vehicles at their disposal, St John personnel are generally positioned at key locations ready to respond to medical issues they see or are called to on average arriving within 3 minutes of the call.

The teams of St John Ambulance Personnel are all volunteers like Street Angels and have day jobs but give up their time freely for the people of Halifax.

With St John Nurses, Paramedics, Ambulance and First Aid trained personnel so quickly available at incidents in the town centre the level of patient care is boosted drastically.

Over the time they have operated St John Ambulance have saved the lives of two people and helped hundreds of others in a wide variety of ways.

St John Ambulance work in full partnership with Street Angels and have become a vital part of the Nightlife Initiative which ensures Halifax is a safe place at night.

Safer Daytime

Street Angels works alongside Halifax's award winning Ambassadors who work in the Town Centre daytimes with an aim to give support to visitors, residents and businesses within the town.

The role of the Ambassadors includes:-
  • Customer service

  • Reducing the fear of crime

  • Signposting for new visitors

  • Distribution of town centre information literature

  • Marketing the town

The Ambassadors work closely alongside partner organisations including the Police, Community Support Officers, Ambulance and Fire Service, and provide:-

One of their most important tasks is routine and reactive patrolling, reporting incidents and issues such as graffiti, damaged phone boxes, broken paving and excess litter. These regular inspections and reports to the appropriate agencies play a vital role in ensuring the town centre remains attractive to visitors.

The Ambassadors are also trained to control and defuse difficult situations, reporting incidences of unsocial behaviour and providing an important on-street presence to discourage crime and improve the safety of town centre users.

Our Ambassadors work in zones right across the town and have an equal responsibility for all businesses in those areas, from multi-national companies through to smaller concerns. See the web site.
