Highlights of the Year 2012:
January: Reports of the success of local projects which launched over Christmas were seen in the media. The new trustees of SA-CNI met in Stockton to agree the new charity objectives and formally set up for launch in April. Paul and Jean supported the launch of Leeds Street Angels. February: Our Love Your Streets #Do1NiceThing campaign was popular and promoted by a wide range of media and social media. Windsor Street Angels and Yarm Town Pastors went out for the first time. March: SA-CNI supported a campaign by the Methodist church titled "Measure for Measure" around unit minimum pricing for alcohol. Steve Brock and Paul gave a CNI presentation at the Cleveland Christian Policing Association day and Paul and Jean visited both Northern Ireland to help launch CNI Network for the NightLight projects and Isle of Man to launch Street Angels. City Angels in Chichester launched. It was also announced that we were Big Society Award winners. April: SA-CNI became a national charity with a national board of trustees. The Fountain in Bedford (linked to CNI) launched. Links were made with The Living Room project in Tenerife. South Tyneside Street Angels and Macclesfield Street Angels launched and Oldham Street Angels re-launched after a trial period in December 2011. May: Burton-on-Trent Street Angels and Isle of Man Street Angels both launched. Several local projects were involved in events around the More Than Gold Praise Bus part of the Olympic Torch tour of the UK. June: Steve and Hazel from Stockton Town Pastors and Paul and Jean founders of SA-CNI attended Downing Street to meet with the Prime Minister and other Big Society Award winners. This led to massive publicity including ITN, BBC and press. Blackpool and Belper Street Angels both launched and we welcomed Carmarthen, West Wales NightLight as part of CNI Network. Our Alcohol and Safety education pack was trialled in a high school in Halifax. July: 300 Games Pastors - many from SA-CNI local projects - were out and about around train stations in London as part of the volunteering force of the Olympics. SA-CNI joined with More Than Gold and Share Jesus International with a trailer that dropped out into a stage which took music, dance and drama to several locations across London. Whitby Street Angels took to the streets for the first time and Beverley Street Angels launched. Town Pastors in Suffolk were part of Latitude Music Festival. August: The Games Pastors and Trailer outreach continued with massive success stories. Adam May said goodbye to SA-CNI. A fantastic team of 16 spent a weekend in Edinburgh supporting people visiting the Festival. Leeds Street Angels offered help at Leeds Festival. September: Street Angels - CNI and several local projects were at the National Day of Prayer at Wembley and Love Your Streets is to play a big part in the legacy of this day. Whitehaven Saint's held a launch event and took to the streets. We partnered with Redeeming Our Communities in a national call to #PrayforPolice following the tragic death of two police officers in Manchester. October: Street Angels and Love Your Streets feature in the book "Neighbours Transform Your Street" and we featured in Inspire magazine. A letter was sent to all Police and Crime Commissioners candidates via Twitter. Sanktuary in Telford became part of CNI Network. November: Top tips for a safe night out from several local projects featured as part of the Big Society Awards response to Alcohol Awareness Week. Several local Police authorities issued reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour as a result of Street Angel projects. December: A busy month for many projects - awards won, lives saved, extra Christmas patrols and communities made safer... For a full look at the year see our monthly Newsletters or Blog. |
Once again it is great to get to the close of another year and look back and thank God for all he has done through the work of Street Angels - CNI Network and local projects.
The simple idea that started 17 years ago in Northern Ireland, 12 years ago in Dundee and 7 years ago in England has seen crime reduced, lives changed, volunteers equipped and communities transformed on a weekly basis. It is great to link all that is happening together under one network and one banner and for this to be recognised by the Prime Minister through the Big Society Award. SA-CNI is leading the way and is often featured on media reports and as a voice in issues relating to alcohol, safety and the night-time economy. Also see our Vision and Business Plan Conference - this is planned for 30th August - 1st September 2013 at Staverton Park Hotel in Daventry. This will be an exciting opportunity to network across projects, find out what God is doing through other projects and to receive inspiration and training that will benefit your weekly work. More details and booking are available here. Strengthening Regional Networks - we have had Regional Coordinators in place for several years and some regions work better together than others. We are holding a weekend with regional coordinators in January and hope to develop a vision to see our regional networks strengthened. Within this we are also hoping to offer accredited training on a regional level and look at new communities for launching night-time projects. Potential of Festival Angels and Pastors - following Festival Pastors at Latitude and Reading and Festival Angels at Leeds, Steve Jay from Ipswich is leading on discussions with the main Music Festival companies to look at if we can support music festivals with Festival Angels and Pastors. NightStock - we are hoping to produce an A-Z of ideas and links for communities to work within the night-time economy to see change and a better mix of activity and people - web site. Edinburgh Festival Week - following this years successful and fun weekend in Edinburgh we are hoping to do the same again over a week in August 2013... European Clubbing Spots - it would be great to send teams of Angels to European Clubbing Spots to offer patrols - if anyone has any links or wants to be involved please contact Paul. #Do1NiceThing ~ Love Your Streets - we are running the Lent campaign again this year and are encouraging local projects to run a #Do1NiceThing Easter finale as a way of blessing the local community. We are also partnering with Neighbourhood Prayer Network who have a vision to see every street in the UK prayed for - LYS web / NPN web. On a practical level we are also launching: SA-CNI linked Insurance Policy Education Resource around Alcohol and Safety On-line shop for first aid supplies, uniform, etc Monthly prayer focus for local projects See here for more information.

SA-CNI is working across five strands...
Local Projects: We have helped around 20 new communities to launch Street Angels based programmes and made links with several existing projects who have become part of the SA-CNI Network. We have also launched NightStock to help communities work within the night-time economy. Network: We have continued to network and partner with a wide range of organisations regionally and nationally. We have also seen great examples of local projects working together regionally to share ideas and resources. National Influence: Street Angels - CNI Network received the Big Society Award at a reception in Downing Street attended by the Prime Minister. This is in recognition of the fantastic work carried out week by week across the UK. We have also contributed to several campaigns around alcohol and safety. Making The Difference: Working with Christian Initiative in Calderdale Schools and Halifax Street Angels we have developed an Education Resource around alcohol and safety for use in High Schools and with young people. We have trialled it with over 300 young people and this will be available for use by groups within the network January 2013. Love Your Streets: The #Do1NiceThing campaign over Lent attracted much publicity and this strand has become part of the legacy of the Wembley National Day of Prayer with inclusion in the Neighbours Transform Your Streets book and a key partner with Neighbourhood Prayer Network.
