Town and City Centre Chaplains offer a friendly presence for those visiting, working or living in that place.
The volunteer Chaplains will either wander around a town or city centre or general area or are based within a place such as a supermarket, department store, GP's surgeries, a court, etc. The mission is simply 'chat, care, prayer'.
Through simple friendships Chaplains are able to offer an independent, impartial and confidential ear for those who want personal support and can also be made available to those who want to discuss spiritual needs or receive prayer.
They are also available to serve in local companies, organisations, retail outlets and shopping malls to develop long-term relationships with management, employees and customers. Chaplains may also be around at town wide events.
The work of Chaplains and Street Angels compliment each other and helps the local church offers a presence in both the day time and night time economy. The Chaplains often work in partnership with agencies such as BID (Business Improvement District), Local Council, Shopping Centre Management and Chamber of Commerce. The pastoral support offered is free, confidential and available to all regardless of faith or no faith.
The mission of Chaplains can be found in Jeremiah 29:7 “seek the peace and prosperity of the city... Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Chaplains will work and pray for peace to be evident and for the prosperity of the businesses and the wider place (this is linked to The5Ps - click here)
