Street Angels and similar groups across the country were invited to submit their top tip for a safe and fun night out. Our volunteers see first hand what can happen when a night out goes wrong. Thankfully our volunteers are around in 120 towns and cities to wipe the tears, clean the sick, bathe the wounds and provide some tlc before the person is got home safe.

As town and cities move from binge to better the numbers of people at the more serious end of the scale has reduced significantly. Our message as part of Alcohol Awareness Week is go out, have fun, stay safe and get home safe. Here are our top tips...

  • Plenty sense. Plenty water. Plenty friends. Never leave your drinks around - Huddersfield Street Angels

  • Always stay with your friends, don't go off alone, have their contact information on you somewhere other than your phone and over a big dinner beforehand try to think about your drinking limits for the night and stick to them! - Leeds Street Angels

  • Always eat before a night out - never drink on an empty stomach - Whitehaven Saints

  • Know your drink and know your limit. Know what you are drinking so you can know how much you have had. This will also help you and your friends know if you have been spiked because you have kept account of your alcohol intake. Halifax Street Angels

  • Keep your taxi money in another part of your handbag so you don't spend it. Always sit in the back of a taxi if you're travelling by yourself. Watford Street Angels

  • Local bus drivers and companies on late night buses - don't reject someone a ride home simply because they don't have enough fare, think what it could mean for them. Passengers - if someone is about to be rejected a bus ride home step in and pay the fare. Headingley Street Angels

  • Pick a venue right for you - if you feel out of place, leave! Most fights start over something minor - someone knock you, spill your drink - apologise! Don't get involved in breaking up a fight - that's the job of the door-staff! Someone pestering you - try and ignore them and if that doesn't work ask the bar or door staff to help you. Look out for your friends - make sure they are safe. Oldham Street Angels

Some great advice - have a good night out, have a safe night out - www.cninetwork.org.uk
