Teams of three or four people will walk the streets of Beeston from Friday night as 'street angels' in the scheme run by Christian charities. They will wear bright blue jackets and have all received training from Nottinghamshire Police. Broxtowe's mayor Councillor Pat Lally and his wife Lynda have volunteered to take part in the scheme. 'Warm welcome'The project, which is part of a larger network of 70 different groups known as Christian Nightlife initiatives, reaches out to clubbers and the vulnerable at night. Nigel Adams, director of Christian charity Hope Nottingham, said: "I think Street Angels is exactly what Beeston needs as it follows in the footsteps of other projects across the country. "It is an encouragement to see the warm welcome that we have received, even before hitting the streets. I hope Street Angels can be extended beyond Beeston to other parts of Nottingham." The volunteers have received police training in conflict resolution and are advised only to intervene in situations they feel comfortable with. Comments are closed.
