We were very encouraged and challenged by the words of Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent John Sutherland speaking at the Tackling Britain's Gang Culture conference: "This is not a situation we're going to arrest our way out of. "Faith matters. There is a place for prayer. "It's not fashionable to say that but frankly we've not got time for fashion anymore." Powerful words that are demonstrated week in and week out through the work of Street Angels - CNI Network local projects within 120 communities. Violent crime, sexual assaults and anti-social behaviour reductions is our prove that faith and prayer really do matter. As we go out - yes to help the vulnerable, yes to pick up bottles, yes to give out flip-flops, yes to offer first aid assistance, yes to be a visible presence, yes to be nice to others - the things that are different, and makes the difference, is our faith, prayer and partnership with God! Thank you again for all those who volunteer - especially as the snow and cold has hit in January - as we carry on the tour of local projects we are always amazed at the commitment of so many and the investment made into local communities. Please do plan to be at our National Conference in August - it promises to be a fantastic two days.. God bless Paul and Jean Well done to: Hull Street Angels who helped rescue a man who had fallen into the River Hull last Saturday night; Sanktuary in Telford who revived a woman who had stopped breathing over Christmas; Oldham Street Angels who won Greater Manchester Police Oldham East Community Excellence Award; Suffolk Town Pastors who are Suffolk Charity of the Year - "what you peeps do is the heartbeat of faith" Love Your Streets ~ #Do1NiceThing is the name of a campaign aimed at promoting and encouraging community social action. Since its launch in 2010 Love Your Streets has seen hundreds of people commit to #Do1NiceThing every day for someone else. This year we are encouraging people to not just give up but give out each and every day over Lent by committing to #Do1NiceThing . There are plenty of ideas on our web site and we encourage you to re-tweet and Facebook these and create a wave of niceness across the country! Another part of Love Your Streets is the partnership with NeighbourhoodPrayer.net who have a vision to see someone on every street in the UK who will 'pray, care and share'. You can sign up to this via the LYS:Pray page on Love Your Streets. We are encouraging people to pray and #Do1NiceThing simply because #OthersRWorthIt ! This has been a busy month for the work of SA-CNI as we have worked on the plan and vision for the year ahead:
We are also planning our August conference and looking at how we can replicate projects such as Street Angels, Club Angels and youth acoustic nights in a better way. This is in addition to the New For 2013 (see the booklet here) which includes insurance cover for local projects, on-line shop, NightStock and YourNight app. Thanks to Cleethorpes Street Angels who spotted a cheap source of flip-flops - see here.
