Fixers - engaging with young people

2/11/2013

My name is Kate and I am the Young Persons Co-ordinator for Yorkshire. Fixers, which is funded by the Big Lottery, helps young people aged 16-25 take on any issues that matter to them and help them find a creative way to do something about it and make positive change. We help the young people to create projects to make a change to their communities and the world around them. We have a creative team which specialises in all things media, so the young people have the chance to make a music video, books, flyers, posters, short films or adverts, help to hold an event and many more. We have experienced Young People’s Co-ordinators that work with the young people throughout their project and help them to develop and achieve their goal and reach their target audience. We never say no to a project, as long as the project helps others.

It would be great to have a meeting with you and the young people you work with to chat with you further about the opportunities. Please feel free to take a look at our website below. This link.. http://fixers.org.uk/videos/2949-10676/fiona.php is one example of a young person who completed a project with us. Please take some time to look at the other projects and outcomes on there. This will give you a good idea of the spectrum of possibilities for the young people you know.

All Projects that young people do with us are featured on our Fixers website (www.fixers.org.uk) and some are picked to be featured on their regional ITV news channel. Many of the young people’s projects have gone on to become national campaigns and are achieving nationally recognised awards.

If you would like to find out more about Fixers please do not hesitate to contact me and I’ll be happy to discuss further alternatively if you know of someone else that may be interested please feel free to pass my details on to them.

  • Fixers helps young people aged 16-25 take action to change things for the better.

  • Fixers can tackle any issue they want, in whatever way they want with one condition – they must help at least one other person.

  • We help our Fixers create high quality resources – including films, websites and printed materials – which they then share with other young people, employers, practitioners, policy makers and service providers.

  • This ensures a lasting legacy of their work and we also help to give them an authentic voice in their communities by reporting on their work on peak time ITV news reports.

  • Fixers has already worked with almost 7,000 young people on more than 800 projects since it was set up in England by the Public Service Broadcasting Trust in 2008.

  • Now, thanks to a £7.2m grant from the Big Lottery Fund, Fixers is expanding into Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  • As momentum builds over the next three years a further 20,000 young people will join the movement as well as 250,000 supporters and Fixers will become a household name
