Street Pastors cut crime in Kingston
The contribution of Street Pastors in Kingston-upon-Thames has been acknowledged, with violent crime dropping by almost half in the nightspots. Kingston, one of London’s most popular nightclubbing destinations, hosts over 20,000 people every weekend, yet in the five years that Street Pastors have been working in the town, violence has nearly halved and crime as a whole has fallen by 25 per cent. Kingston’s police superintendent, Paul McGregor, praised the Street Pastors’ work and said they had won both ‘respect and gratitude’. He continued: ‘They have undoubtedly contributed to making Kingston a safer place. I am confident Street Pastors will continue to play a vital role in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in future years.’ Over 5,000 Street Pastors now patrol town centres across the UK.
