Little crime say Police in Sudbury

1/2/2012

SUDBURY enjoyed an unusually quiet Christmas with little crime reported, according to a police chief.

Sergeant Kevin Horton, from Sudbury Police, said the town experienced “one or two” crimes a day over the festive season, including drink-drive offences and domestic arguments.

He said he believed the low crime rate was partially to do with people preferring to spend money on presents and stay in rather than go out.

“It was quite bizarre how quiet the town was in the run up to Christmas,” said Mr Horton.

“There were plenty of officers, town pastors and door staff around but I think we outnumbered those out for the evening on some occasions.”

Mr Horton said that despite the unexpectedly low crime rate, extra officers would be on patrol as normal on New Year’s Eve.
