An open meeting to promote the Street Angels initiative will take place in Windsor on Wednesday 10 November. The meeting will be held at Windsor Baptist Church, Victoria Street, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. There will be a guest speaker from Guildford Street Angels, who will talk about their scheme and how it has benefited the community of Guildford. Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) David Bullock, from Windsor Inner neighbourhood policing team, said: "Representatives from Thames Valley Police, Windsor Churches Together, the Ambulance Service and the Royal Borough will also be in attendance. "It will be a great opportunity for anyone interested in becoming a Street Angel to find out more about the scheme, as well as our plans for it here in Windsor." The Street Angels scheme, which is already running successfully in other parts of the country, involves volunteer ‘angels’ patrolling the streets and assisting people who become vulnerable in any way while enjoying an evening out. Street angels listen, care, offer practical help or refer people to specialist agencies. Volunteers must be over 18 years old and will be CRB checked, interviewed and provided with relevant training. The Windsor angels will operate under the guidance of an appointed coordinator, with support from Thames Valley Police. They will be based at one of the town centre churches and mainly patrol on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm until 4am. Patrols will mostly be conducted in groups of three and targeted at locations where bars and night clubs are prominent, and where a calming, non-threatening presence is required.
