The Sanktuary project had a comment on Twitter that:
"What you peeps do is the heartbeat of faith" Last night, Saturday 21st December, that became a reality for one young lady in Wellington, Telford... "Where to begin... last night was a very busy night in Wellington. There were over a 1000 people in pussycats nightclub and even though it wasn't a particularly cold night it was very windy and we gave out lots of blankets. The night started smoothly and quietly but as the night progressed several fights broke out and our volunteers were turning in every direction to offer help to people. We gave out nearly 20 pairs of flip flops during the night to girls deperate to take their high heeled shoes off after a night of dancing and last night it was clear how valuable the flip flops are as there was a lot of broken glass in amongst the gravel of the car park that we found very difficult to sweep up. The night took a real turn however when just shortly before 4am a young man came running across the tan bank car park asking everyone if they had some water as there was a girl having a fit. Two of our volunteers immediately ran down the hill to find her on the ground on tan bank gasping for breath and shaking violently. We managed to ascertain that she was asthmatic and whilst one of our volunteers was phoning for an ambulance we also managed to locate an inhaler which we were able to give her. However she then stopped breathing. One of our volunteers is a trained first aider and was able to immediately giver her mouth to mouth resucitation to revive her and thankfully he was successful and she started breathing again. The ambulance crew arrived a few minutes later. When the nightclub eventually closed just before 4.30am there was a large fight outside as the crowd left the gates and several people were hurt including a young woman who had tried to break up the fight but was unfortunately punched in the face in the process. We are so thankful that our team were working last night and were able to help in all the situations we faced. If you have been following our blog or our twitter then you will have seen that we have been asking for more volunteers for a while now and that we have not been able to work every Saturday night recently but every night we do run proves beyond a doubt just how valuable the work our volunteers do is. We will next have a team running on New Years Eve but as I look forward to January we will still not be able to run every weekend with the number of volunteers we currently have. If you think you can give out flip flops and blankets, chat to people, remain calm through the night and not be judgemental of people who are drunk and unwell and you could give time one Saturday night per month to work with us then we would love to hear from you - please fill out the form at www.sanktuary.org.uk And if you aren't able to volunteer with us then please pray for the work we do and if you know young people who go out in Wellington then tell them about us so they know that there are people who can help and keep them safe if they get into trouble whilst out.
