It has been revealed that the police are in talks with three members of the church-led initiative to bring the scheme to Malton and Norton in the near future. Volunteers will patrol the streets into the early hours on Friday and Saturday and help anyone in “vulnerable or difficult situations”. Hope Central, on Castlegate, Malton, is also considering opening its doors on both nights after closing time to provide a base for the Street Angels and to offer warmth to anyone struggling to make their way home or in need of other assistance. The scheme has already been rolled out in Scarborough and York. In a report to district and county councillors, Inspector Andy Everitt, commander of Ryedale’s Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said he “very much welcomed this initiative”. Comments are closed.
