We have been operating on a Thursday night in Burton Town Centre since the start of the year. We have gone for Thursday, which I know is unusual, because that is traditionally the night when younger and under-age drinkers are out. It's known locally as 'Dirty Thursday'.
We have 25 volunteers at the moment, mainly from churches across the town, but also some form the youth and community unit of the Borough Council. We have been well received, door staff are pleased to see us, some already have experience of Street Pastors in Derby and Late Night Listeners in Lichfield. The punters are pleased to see us too, they think it is a good idea and feel confident about having us around. The competition amongst volunteers is to see who gets offered the most hugs!
