Twelve young volunteers are preparing to patrol the streets of Scarborough to keep other youngsters out of trouble. The "Youth Angels" will tour the resort on Friday and Saturday nights, talking to young people and offering advice. The volunteers hope to steer youngsters away from abusing alcohol and causing anti-social behaviour in the town. Youth Angel Daniel Abell said: "We can help them achieve a better way of living rather than just hanging around street corners getting drunk." Scarborough's Youth Angels plan to complement the work of the town's Street Angels, who are generally older and already patrol the resort late at night. 'Credible messengers'Hilary Jones, strategic director for the Scarborough and district safe communities partnership, said the Youth Angels had an important role to play in the town. "They are effectively peers and are credible messengers who can go out and make a connection and engage with young people, particularly some of the more vulnerable people," she said. Youth Angel James Pell said he hoped the scheme could make a difference to the lives of younger people in Scarborough. "I am doing this because I have a heart and a passion to see these people being more than just a statistic," he said.
